Navigation Skills: Fields and Farms
Course description
Enjoying the freedom of the countryside is a wonderful thing; then you miss a turn, get lost and haven't a clue where you are. Only then does it start to rain!
We can help you wander the countryside with confidence, safe in the knowledge that a brief look at the map will bring you back on course.
Our Navigation Skills: Field & Farms course won't teach you how to walk on a compass bearing across the the barren blankness of Dartmoor, as it is firmly rooted in the countryside that surrounds the towns and cities where most people walk on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We'll leave the technical stuff for another day and concentrate on practical usage of observation and common sense.

Preparation and fitness
The good news is that you don't have to be ultra-fit to get the most out of this course.
We will be walking for about three hours in the afternoon, though not constantly and at an easy pace. We will be stopping regularly to coach different skills.
Consolidation and practice
We recommend that you take what you've learned straight out on the trail and practice the skills as much as possible before moving up to the next course.
A walk in the countryside once or twice a week will help cement your new skills. Try to concentrate on the bits you have the most difficulty with as this will help them become second nature.
Equipment required
Please refer to our equipment page for a complete list.
You won't need to carry a map, compass, first aid kit or shelter as your guide will have all of this.
